Scuba diving & Snorkeling
Located on one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, Hotel Gaviota Playa Cayo Santa Maria is an idyllic all-inclusive hotel with excellent food & drink & great entertainment to charm couples & families alike.

Playa Cayo Santa Maria is well laid out with all amenities within a short walk, though there are electric buggies for less mobile guests. The hotel has 6 pools, a gym, health spa, dance lessons & tennis, while scuba diving, kayaks, catamarans & pedal boats are available at the stunning beach. If all that sounds too active then you can be pampered in beach cabanas which offer massages & manicures. There are plenty of activities by day & night, organised by the dedicated and very friendly entertainment team, including live music & a great range of shows; from magic to Michael Jackson.

Hotel Gaviota Playa Cayo Santa Maria has 4 a la carte restaurants, a buffet restaurant & snack bar which all serve a good variety of quality food. There are occasional queues in the buffet restaurant, though never more than might be expected at busy times. The hotel’s ice cream parlour & speciality coffee cart have great selections and are particular favourites with guests. Playa Cayo Santa Maria also has 6 great bars, including a pool swim-up bar, which serve top international branded drinks.

If you want high standards of food, drink, entertainment and facilities – and your ideal holiday includes a beautiful beach with miles of white powder sand & crystal clear water – you should stay at Playa Cayo Santa Maria.

Food was very good...only the bread and fruit offer could be better. Employees professional. Rooms were good. Roomservice was not so good. They did not provide all towels.

Guide to Cayo Santa Maria
Cayo Santa Maria lies at the western end of the Archipielago de Sabana-Camaguey, 25 km west of Cayo Guillermo, in the Bahia de Buenavista ecosystem, declared by UNESCO as a “Biosphere Reserve”; in a setting rich with endemic species protected by a beach of incomparable beauty, with more than ten kilometers of fine white sand and a sea of varying shades of blue.

The key (cayo) is united to the mainland by an impressive causeway called "El Pedraplen" constructed across the Bahia Buena Vista from the port of Caibarien at a cost of 100 million pesos. This engineering marvel built between 1989 and 1999, is over 48 km long and has 46 bridges, and is worthy of its Puente Alcantara Award. The bridges allow an exchange of tidal waters, an improvement over the earlier Cayo Coco causeway. Paving was completed in 1999, just as Las Brujas Airport was being built on Cayo Las Brujas, 45km northwest of Caibarien.

Travelers from Remedios, a colonial town with its parrish church and to Santa Clara, seat of the Ernesto Che Guevara Memorial, cross crystalline and tranquil waters and keys, and can observe hawks, pelicans and the amazing pink flamingo.
